Sunday evening after the >>Life, Love, & Leadership service<<,  First Lady Jackson approached me and told me that she loved my hair. And not only did she, but so did her granddaughter, Brianna. Not sure of Brianna's exact age, but if I had to guess, I'd say maybe 12 or 13. She was telling me that Brianna loved me and my style and how I'm comfortable just being me. She said Brianna would come to church and want to see me just to see what I was wearing or how I'd styled my hair. It was funny to me because I can appreciate Brianna's creative individual style as well. It's a little bit sassy and a little bit quirky. I took it as a great compliment that she liked my "me". It says a lot to me that someone, even a child/teenager, notices it and appreciates it. I guess the conversation started because Brianna was telling her mom she wants to wear big hair like mine to which her mom adamantly shut down. And Brianna replied that she can't wait until she's an adult so she can wear her hair in a way that expresses who she is. I get it. I am in no way condoning rebelliousness. I agree that, if her mom disapproves, she should definitely wait until she is older. But I smile at the fact that she gets that it's okay to be yourself. It's okay to not look like everyone else. It's okay to let who you are on the inside show on the outside And it's also very, very, very much okay to wear horizontal stripes, leopard print shoes, and an abstract pencil skirt. As long as it is... you.

First Lady ended the brief conversation by saying that, someone is always watching you. It may not always be for the right reason (ahem, fashion tips during church service), but someone is, indeed, always watching.
